Blog Entry 6 Tuesday 19 June – Great End, Ill Crag, Esk Pike & Bow Fell

At 19-45 we arrived back in our car at Seathwaite, having set out at 10-15 once the rain had subsided. For some reason, it seems, we were the only people in the UK who suffered rain overnight! So off we went short of sleep & attacked the steep ascent of Great End, which we had been unable to visit on Saturday due to the severe weather. From there we made our way to Ill Crag, which we discovered overnight should have been included in the 10 highest summits, & then over another summit Esk Pike & then on to Bowfell. At Bowfell, we were blessed with wonderful sunny weather & could see Scotland, the Isle of Man & a full panorama of the Lakeland mountains. At the summit we met a lovely family from Buckinghamshire who agreed to sponsor us. Bowfell was our 10th summit & all that remains now to complete our challenge is to climb the mighty Skiddaw, the 4th highest peak in the Lake District, on Wednesday morning, therefore completing the challenge. From there we will return home on Wednesday evening. Please look on the blog for additional photographs which show the conditions we met along the way, fantastic scenery & views. Despite the difficulties we encountered along the way we never lost sight of the purpose of our visit to the Lake District & we look forward to thanking everybody who has contributed to this very worthy cause. Thanks again for your prayers & support. Dave & Rowland
