Day 4

Arrived safely in SHAP at 6pm, a long days walk in windy, wet & cold weather. As Wainwright would say ‘we are now leaving the beloved Lake District’. Bagged two Wainwright peaks ‘The Knott’ & ‘Kidsty Pike’. Feet still sore, knees holding up. Noticeably warmer as we came out of the Lake District. Off to

Day 2

Great weather, first hard climb from Black Sail Hut to Honister. Met Peter, a Dutchman, who cultivates tulip bulbs. Lunch at Honister Mine with an easy descent to Rosthwaite Youth Hostel. Easy day today but good preparation for tomorrow when we climb two mountain ranges to reach firstly Grasmere and then to Patterdale Youth Hostel.

Day 1

Great first day. Walked 34.2 km (21.4 miles). Weather good until last hour when we had heavy showers. Arrived in Ennerdale Youth Hostel at 17.30 – 9.5 hours walking. We are all well. No injuries or blisters. Looking forward to enjoying a lighter day tomorrow (less than 15 miles). Now enjoying a lovely bottle of ale.

Day 0

Arrived in St Bees safely, missed the rain in Derby. Trains ran like clockwork. Walked along beach, collected our pebbles to take to throw in the north sea.
