Day 3

From left to Right - Dave, Paul, Steve

Completed day 3, arriving at Patterdale Youth Hostel at 5.30pm.  All of us are fit & well, although very tiring day – the toughest one so far, after hiking over two mountain ranges.

Looking forward to gentler walking in the Dales – but not tomorrow, as we have to climb the highest part on the walk.

Staying at Shap tomorrow evening.

Day 2

Great weather, first hard climb from Black Sail Hut to Honister. Met Peter, a Dutchman, who cultivates tulip bulbs. Lunch at Honister Mine with an easy descent to Rosthwaite Youth Hostel. Easy day today but good preparation for tomorrow when we climb two mountain ranges to reach firstly Grasmere and then to Patterdale Youth Hostel. All feeling well, Paul’s birthday today so beer & brandy tonight.

Foggy, Compo & Clegg the Last of the Summer Winers. You can guess who is who!!

Day 1

Great first day. Walked 34.2 km (21.4 miles). Weather good until last hour when we had heavy showers. Arrived in Ennerdale Youth Hostel at 17.30 – 9.5 hours walking.

We are all well. No injuries or blisters. Looking forward to enjoying a lighter day tomorrow (less than 15 miles). Now enjoying a lovely bottle of ale.

Day 0

Arrived in St Bees safely, missed the rain in Derby.
Trains ran like clockwork.
Walked along beach, collected our pebbles to take to throw in the north sea.
Dipped our toes in the water, Paul got his trousers wet!!
Learn to add photo’s tomorrow.
More tomorrow after 21 miles walk to Ennerdale Youth Hostel. (note the Youth).
